Troop B - Late this morning in Laplace, a Louisiana State Trooper was involved in a shooting incident after being assaulted my numerous suspects during a narcotics investigation.

On Friday, August 28, 2009 at 11:30 am, Louisiana State Police and St. John the Baptist Sheriff’s Office narcotics agents were conducting a joint undercover narcotics investigation in the Joe Parquet Circle area of Laplace. During the course of the investigation, four black male suspects approached the Trooper who was sitting in a vehicle in front of 147 Joe Parquet Circle. During a brief conversation, one of the suspects brandished and pointed a handgun while another suspect assaulted the Trooper. A struggle ensued and the Trooper was able to draw his weapon, fire several shots at the armed suspect and take cover. Two of the suspects were struck by gunfire while the other two suspects fled the scene. The Trooper was treated and released by River Parishes Hospital.

Jeremiah Randle (B/M, 20 y/o, of Laplace) suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at River Parishes Hospital. Derrick Dennis (B/M, 26 y/o) was injured and transported to River Parishes Hospital where he was treated and released into police custody.
