Maranda Bourgeois, Shantell Chatman, John Lindsay Amy Young and John Gonzales (not pictured) Lifesaving Award On July 25, 2005, these citizens were driving their vehicles westbound on I-10 in East Baton Rouge Parish when they noticed a pickup truck parked on the outside shoulder of the road with Mr. Quincy Shaddinger lying in front of it. While changing his truck's tire, he received grave injuries when he was struck by a vehicle whose driver had fallen asleep. These individuals kept Mr. Shaddinger's airway open and treated him for massive blood loss until an ambulance arrived. Through their heroic efforts, Mrs. Shaddinger remained alive until later that day giving his family time to see him before his passing and allowing Mr. Shaddinger to fulfill his wishes by giving his final gift of life through organ donation.
