Heavy Vehicle Crash Reconstruction
class is full
Heavy vehicles provide their own challenges when they are involved in traffic crashes. Their braking systems differ from those found in passenger vehicles and articulated vehicles (semi-tractor/trailer combinations) also behave differently than single units. This course includes four hours of field testing to demonstrate various braking and acceleration characteristics of heavy vehicles and to allow students the chance to analyze and apply the collected data. Case studies are also used to show how various analytic techniques can be applied to real world crashes. Students review each case study and discuss how it relates to an actual situation.

March 19-23, 2012 |
Prerequisite: |
Heavy Vehicle Crash Reconstruction is designed for practicing crash reconstructionists who investigate heavy vehicle collisions. Successful participation in this course requires a number of prerequisite skills, including solving algebraic equations, understanding vehicle dynamics and laws of motion and successful completion of Traffic Crash Reconstruction 1 and Traffic Crash Reconstruction 2 or their equivalent. (Graduates of Reconstruction 1 and 2 with less than six months of field experience are not encouraged to attend this course). Students must also have a basic understanding of heavy vehicle braking systems. |
