Baton Rouge – In November of 2022, Louisiana State Police Insurance Fraud/Auto Theft Unit Baton Rouge Field Office (LSP-IFAT-BRFO) began receiving information from the Louisiana Department of Insurance (LDI) pertaining to allegations of theft and insurance fraud by 66-year-old Albert Frederick Peterson III of Baton Rouge. The information received alleged that Peterson, an Insurance Producer, was conducting fraudulent activities and/or theft related to insurance products provided to the Baton Rouge Police Union (BRPD Union).

A State Police investigation, with the assistance of LDI and the United States Department of Labor, identified 26 separate occasions in which Peterson fraudulently obtained and misappropriated premium and insurance refunds due to BRPD Union members between May 2019 and May 2021, totaling over $30,000.00.

As a result of the investigation, an arrest warrant for Peterson was issued on March 6th, 2024 in the 19th Judicial District Court for Insurance Fraud and Theft. On March 18, 2024, Peterson was arrested by LSP Investigators and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

The LSP-IFAT continues to investigate crimes related to auto theft and insurance fraud. Citizens can report suspected fraud to the LSP-IFAT division at lsp.insurance.fraud.unit@la.gov.
