Motorcyclist Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash in Livingston Parish

Livingston – Shortly after 11:00 a.m. on May 19, 2024, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to a two-vehicle crash on LA 63 at Grand Lake Blvd. The crash claimed the life of 42-year-old Billy Ray Collins of Hammond.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2018 Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven by Collins, was traveling southbound on LA 63 at a high rate of speed. At the same time, a 2013 Subaru Crosstrek was traveling northbound on LA 63, attempting to make a left turn onto Grand Lake Blvd. For reasons still under investigation, the Harley Davidson motorcycle struck the front bumper of the Subaru.

Collins, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, sustained serious injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. While impairment is unknown, standard toxicology samples will be taken and submitted for analysis. The driver of the Subaru was properly restrained at the time of the crash and was uninjured. This crash is still under investigation.

Troopers would like to stress the importance of utilizing proper safety equipment, such as DOT-approved helmets. Properly wearing an approved helmet decreases the chances of traumatic brain injury. Additionally, Troopers encourage all riders to take an approved motorcycle safety course.
